Situated in South East Wales, Newport is the first major City to be reached by the M4 and A48. It has some interesting landmarks, such as the Transporter Bridge, which was featured in the film "Tiger Bay", starring Horst Bucholst and Hayley Mills. It is situated on the River Usk, and is two miles from Caerleon, the ancient Roman fortress of Isca Silurum. Legend has it that Caerleon was also well known to King Arthur, and has even been suggested as a possible site of Camelot. To the east of Newport is Venta Silurum, or Caerwent, which was another Roman garrison.

The ruined Castle near Newport Bridge is a testament to the Norman invasion. Nearby, a Viking longship was discovered during the 1990's in the deep mud of the river. At the top of Stow Hill is the romantic St Woolos Cathedral. To the south of Newport on the eastern banks of the Usk are the power stations at Uskmouth, near Nash. A little further on is Goldcliff which was featured on a 'Time Team' program in 2004.

Within this website there are images contributed by various people, some of the pictures are quite new, and some are very old showing places in Newport from many years ago. Some have changed little in the passing years. Where pictures have been sent in, the names of the contributors have been credited to the image. In the case of some images, the origins are unclear, especially the older ones. Where ever they have come from, they are displayed here to entertain, and to hopefully inform the reader.

There are links to other interesting sites, such as the Lliswerry website, which has entertained people for the last few years. There is also a link to the Stow Hill School website. A link is also provided so that you can visit the online version of the South Wales Argus. If you should need to obtain information from Newport Council and so forth, a link is here for that too. If you are a Transporter Bridge lover (and many of us are) you can visit the 'Friends of Newport Transporter Bridge' (fontb) website via a link from this site.

I hope you enjoy your journey through this site.
